3.How about the VEMD8080

The VEMD8080 is a high speed and high sensitive PIN photodiode with enhanced sensitivity for visible light. It is a low profile surface-mount device (SMD) including the chip with a 4.5 mm2 sensitive area detecting visible and near infrared radiation.

Vishay's new model VEMD8080 USES a rectangular 4.8mm x 2.5mm top view surface to encapsulate and adopts the industry-leading 0.48mm thin and thin section.That is 0.37 mm lower than competitive solutions. Vishay Semiconductor's VEMD8080 features fast switching time and a low capacitance of 47 pF, which can be used for precise signal detection in wearable devices and medical applications.

This product released  uses Vishay's proven wafer technology, which is capable of wider use with a photosensitive area of 4.5 mm and ultra-high irradiance (28 μA of reverse photocurrent and 0.2 nA of dark current). The visible and near-infrared radiation from 350 nm to 1100 nm are detected in the spectral range. For green LEDs, the sensitivity of the VEMD8080 is 30% higher than the standard level of previous generation solutions.

Vishay Announces New Visible Light Sensitivity Enhancement High Speed Silicon PIN Photodiode

When used with similar green LEDs such as the Vishay VLMTG1400, the small size and high sensitivity of the VEMD8080 photodiode make it possible to perform optical heart rate detection in wearable devices such as motion trackers and smart watches. In these devices, the rectangular shape of the VEMD8080 allows several light emitting diodes to be placed near the light-sensing area to maximize signal strength. When used in conjunction with dual-color light-emitting diodes at 660nm and 940nm, the new photodiode is perfectly suited for SpO2 measurements in medical monitors.

The VEMD8080 has a half-sensitivity of ±65°, a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, and a peak sensitivity of 950nm. The photodiode is RoHS compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green certified. It has a moisture sensitivity rating (MSL) of 4 according to the J-STD-020 standard and a 72-hour shop floor life.Samples of VEMD8080 are available now. Bulk supply will start in March 2018, and the delivery time for large orders will be 8 to 10 weeks. Product demonstration boards are available from MikroElektronika and Vishay distributors.
