The NXP S32V234 processor combines a powerful and highly-efficient CPU, GPU, and image processor to provide high-performance processing, visual acceleration, and security features. The processor integrates four Arm Cortex-A53 cores running at up to 1 GHz, a NEON coprocessor, and an Arm Cortex-M4 CPU. With the Cortex-M4, the car operating system can be interacted with external devices without the Cortex-A53 CPU.
The S32V234 Processor Series brings a platform approach to safety critical design by deploying a heterogeneous mix of CPU, GPU, and image processors. The CPU core platform includes a quad-core 1GHz ARM® Cortex®-A53 along with an ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller. The ARM Cortex-A53 CPU is a 64-bit (ARMv8) core that offers balanced performance along with low power and cost-effective die area. To support reliability requirements, the processors all have error correcting codes (ECC) to protect data and instructions to the processor caches, the internal 4MB scratchpad memory, and the DRAM memory. The S32V234 also offers an impressive range of connectivity features, including Gigabit Ethernet, Zipwire serial interface, dual CAN-FD interfaces, dual FlexRay communications, and a PCI Express (PCIe) channel.
The S32V234 processor offers a rich set of security features including a dynamic AES Decryption Engine (OTFAD) and a Cryptographic Services Engine (CSE) that conforms to the Secure Hardware Extension (SHE) protocol specification. The device also provides automotive safety compliance developed through NXP's SafeAssure program, which helps manufacturers' systems meet the ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 functional safety standards.
The S32V234 also includes a crypto processor to speed security transaction as security is fast becoming a critical function to protect internal IP as well as protect against external intrusion attacks. The on-chip Image Signal Processor (ISP) is used for camera image pre-processing. The ISP is optimized for functions like dead pixel processing, correction of geometric distortions, High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing, image scaling, and color correction. The ISP has a programmable architecture and can adjust to any kind of image sensor.
The S32V234 Processor Series has a complete enablement platform supported by S32 Design Studio IDE for Vision which includes a compiler, debugger, Vision SDK, Linux BSP, and graph tools.
The S32V234 processor comes with the companion SBC-S32V234 Vision Prototype Kit, which offers Linux (Yocto) and AutoSAR operating system options. The SBC-S32V234 kit has a complete set of support tools.The SBC-S32V234 is also supported by the S32 Design Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
