The new SMD series combines the super-low ESR (equivalent series resistance) advantages of polymer capacitors with the low leakage current characteristics of aluminum electrolytic capacitor technology. Highly stable when exposed to temperature fluctuations, most components notably feature operating temperatures from -55 degrees C to +135 degrees C, and load life ratings to 2,000 hours. Devices are offered in voltage options ranging from 6.3 VDC to 63 VDC, and with capacitance values from 10 µF to 560 µF. To further optimize engineers' design flexibility in applications where space is at a premium, the capacitors range in size from 6.3 mm diameter x 7.7 mm long to 10 mm x 12.5 mm.It is Highly Reliable Parts Offered in Voltages from 6.3 to 63VDC And in Capacitances from 10 to 560µF

The solvent-resistant MXCPB and MXCPT Series of SMD hybrid aluminum-polymer capacitors' super-low ESR and high capacitance values enable low impedance at high frequencies to support excellent noise suppression and ripple absorption in a wide range of such consumer, industrial and automotive electronics as PC servers, networking equipment, flat-panel TVs, power supplies and inverters. In automotive applications, parts are used to boost energy efficiency in engine-management and electronic fuel-injection systems, gearbox controllers, steering aids, and in motors for windshield wipers and fans, along with oil, or water pumps.

Tecate's new MXCPB Series is available in nine capacitance values ranging from 22 µF to 560 µF and voltage options of 6.3 VDC, 10 VDC and 16 VDC. They are provided in 8 mm diameter x 10.5 mm long and 10 mm x 10.5 mm case sizes, with operating temperatures from -55 degrees C to +125 degrees C. Load life is 2,000 hours at +125 degrees C. Uniquely boasting an operating temperature range of -55 degrees C to +135 degrees C, capacitors in the MXCPT Series are offered in fifteen capacitance values ranging from 10 µF to 330 µF and in voltages of 25 VDC, 35 VDC, 40 VDC, 50 VDC and 63 VDC. These components may be ordered in 4 case sizes ranging from 6.3 mm diameter x 7.7 mm long to 10 mm x 12.5 mm. At +135 degrees C, 6.3 mm x 7.7 mm parts' load life is 1,000 hours. All other components in this series feature a 2,000 hour load life. Both series' capacitance tolerance is +/-20%. Devices are available in Pb-free and RoHS-compliant versions and supplied tape and reel.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarized electrolytic capacitors whose anode electrode (+) is made of a pure aluminum foil with an etched surface. The aluminum forms a very thin insulating layer of aluminium oxide by anodization that acts as the dielectric of the capacitor. A non-solid electrolyte covers the rough surface of the oxide layer, serving in principle as the second electrode (cathode) (-) of the capacitor. A second aluminum foil called “cathode foil” contacts the electrolyte and serves as the electrical connection to the negative terminal of the capacitor

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are divided into three subfamilies by the type of electrolyte:non-solid (liquid, wet) aluminum electrolytic capacitors,solid manganese dioxide aluminum electrolytic capacitors, and solid polymer aluminium electrolytic capacitors.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolyte are the most inexpensive type and also those with widest range of sizes, capacitance and voltage values. They are made with capacitance values from 0.1 µF up to 2,700,000 µF (2.7 F),[1] and rated voltages values from 4 V up to 630 V.[2] The liquid electrolyte provides oxygen for re-forming or self-healing of the dielectric oxide layer. However, it can evaporate through a temperature-dependent drying-out process, which causes electrical parameters to drift, limiting the service life time of the capacitors.

Due to their relatively high capacitance values aluminum electrolytic capacitors have low impedance values even at lower frequencies like mains frequency. They are typically used in power supplies, switched-mode power supplies and DC-DC converters for smoothing and buffering rectified DC voltages in many electronic devices as well as in industrial power supplies and frequency converters as DC link capacitors for drives, inverters for photovoltaic, and converters in wind power plants. Special types are used for energy storage, for example in photoflash or strobe applications or for frequency coupling in audio applications.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarized capacitors because of their anodization principle. They can only be operated with DC voltage applied with the correct polarity. Operating the capacitor with wrong polarity or with AC voltage leads to a short circuit and can destroy the component. The exceptions is the bipolar aluminum electrolytic capacitor, which has a back-to-back configuration of two anodes in one case and can be used in AC applications.
