Optical modulator driver offers lowest power, form factor

Ideal for 40 Gbit/s and 100 Gbit/s Mach-Zehnder optical modulator driver applications, the HMC5850BG driver amplifier is offered as the industry’s lowest power (at 1 W) and smallest form factor SMT packaged (59 mm2). Additional features include a wide operating range from 5 to 7 V, an integrated peak detector function, and RF I/Os that are internally matched to 50 Ω.

Housed in a laminate substrate based BGA surface-mount package, the HMC5850BG operates between the –40° to 85°C temperature range, provides up to 32 dB of gain, and exhibits very low additive rms jitter of 230 fs and supports up to 32 Gbps operation. The output swing is adjustable from 5 to 8 Vp-p.

There are only 4 dc control signals required to tune the crossing and output RF amplitude. The integrated bias-tee eliminates the need for external high frequency coil, simplifies the PCB design and lowers the BOM cost. (Contact company for pricing and availability)
