Power Integrations launches new InnoMux technology to improve the efficiency of display power

Update Time: 2020-10-29 17:49:40

This new chipset includes an InnoMux controller IC and an InnoSwitch™ 3-MX isolated switch IC. InnoSwitch3-MX is the latest member of the Power Integrations flyback switch ICs product family, which integrates primary FET, primary side controller, secondary side controller for synchronous rectification, and FluxLinkhigh-speed communication that can eliminate optocouplers technology. InnoSwitch3-MX accepts control information from InnoMux IC, it can measure the load requirements of each output separately, and instruct the switching operation of InnoSwitch3-MX to provide appropriate power to each output to maintain current or voltage adjustment accuracy. This eliminates the load and cross regulation challenges that are common in conventional multi-output power supplies, so there is no need to use a post-stage voltage regulator circuit. The overall power conversion efficiency is increased by 10%, heat sinks can be omitted and overheated hot spots can be eliminated, and it can easily meet the upcoming ENERGY STAR® 8.0 display standard and the latest CEC power consumption standard scheduled to take effect in July 2019.

The unique feature of InnoMux technology is that it can support accurately adjusted constant current and constant voltage output at the same time, and can realize the control of one to four constant current channels and the control of up to two constant voltage outputs. This flexibility can meet the logic, audio and LED power requirements common in TVs and displays. The IC can provide overload protection for each output. InnoMux technology also supports complex dimming applications required for LED constant current output, including analog dimming and PWM dimming. It can also achieve alternating and hybrid dimming through dedicated analog and PWM control pins to achieve dimming amplitude Reduce to the level of 1.5%.

Edward Ong, Product Marketing Manager of Power Integrations, said: "Developers can take advantage of InnoMux's power conversion efficiency in two ways: They can develop high-efficiency displays and TVs to meet manufacturer specifications and regional energy efficiency regulations, or they can reduce light. Efficiency requirements, the use of low-cost LEDs and simpler and cheaper diffusers to reduce the cost of the display panel, while still meeting the ENERGY STAR 8.0 standard that will be implemented in the future."

Now, Power Integrations has developed two reference designs related to new products-DER-635 and DER-636. DER-636 is a 40 W monitor power supply with one constant voltage output and four constant current outputs. DER-635 is a 45 W TV application power supply that can provide 2 constant voltage outputs and 1 constant current output. New device samples will be available in the second quarter of 2019.
