The description of The MC13242
The MC13242 is a 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, andMedical (ISM) and Medical Body Area Network(MBAN) transceiver intended for the IEEE® 802.15.4Standard. The MC13242 device is a standalonetransceiver that is normally combined with a softwarestack and a Freescale Kinetis MCU to implement anIEEE 802.15.4 Standard platform solution.The MC13242 contains a complete 802.15.4 physicallayer (PHY) modem designed for the IEEE® 802.15.4Standard which supports peer-to-peer, star, and meshnetworking. When combined with an appropriatemicrocontroller (MCU), the MC13242 provides acost-effective solution for short-range data links andnetworks. Interface with the MCU is accomplished usinga four wire serial peripheral interface (SPI) connectionand an interrupt request output, which allows for the useof a variety of processors. The software and processorcan be scaled to fit applications ranging from simplepoint-to-point systems, to complete ZigBee networks.
The Kinetis KW20 wireless MCU provides a 50-MHz Cortex-M4 processor and a high-performance wireless transceiver, combined with enhanced data security and device security features like secure flash, advanced encryption, and tamper detect. The device has the 802.15.4-compliant radio, up to 512 Kbytes of flash, and 64 Kbytes of RAM.
The IC includes a cryptography acceleration unit, a 128-bit random number generator, antenna diversity support, and Dual PAN ZigBee network support. It features, a low 15-mA RX/TX power consumption, and a 1.8 to 3.6-V operating range, with the performance to handle both ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0 and Internet Protocol applications.
