History of the Development of Intelligent Camera

With the intelligence of electronic devices and network connectivity, many products have taken on a new life, and the home camera is one of the representatives.

Today's home smart camera has long since gotten rid of computer peripherals, bulky security products, and other old labels; in intelligent addition, the camera has dynamic identification, automatic alarm, remote control, and other new applications.

The history of the development of smart camera

A smart camera is ultimately the application of the image, and the camera appeared earlier than many people think. In 1874, the French astronomer Jules Jean Sang invented the world's first camera, the source of all the current camera equipment.

However, the emergence of surveillance cameras was much later; the world's the first surveillance camera publicly appeared in 1942, while the earliest electronic surveillance system appeared in 1957, invented by the Americans.

And subject to the then signal transmission technology and picture tube technology, the picture can only be presented in black and white.

By 1968, with the popularity of memory, the real sense that the video surveillance camera system could be recorded appeared before the monitoring system could not video, only real-time viewing, if the use of film recording, the cost were too high.

The use of color screen monitoring was in 1976; the United Kingdom also became the world's first country to popularize this system.

Meanwhile, in the 1990s, the rapid development of the Internet also led to the rise of surveillance camera systems. 1994-1996, a team of researchers at San Francisco State University published the first surveillance camera using the Internet architecture as the basis for signal transmission IPCamera.

In 1999, this team released IPCamera1, a surveillance camera with Linux as its platform.

Release of this product is the prototype of today's many Internet security cameras.

So far, the surveillance camera, from the past traditional analog closed-circuit surveillance system (CCTV) to the medium-term development of digital-to-analog surveillance system (DVR), still relies on coaxial cable output video signal through video; the DVR to support recording and playback and can support wired IP network access.

Today is the development of the third stage, which is the IP video surveillance system IPVS, and the first two are different; the advantage of the all-IP video surveillance system is that the camera built-in Web server, can directly provide Ethernet port, the data mainly generates JPEG or MPEG4 and other files, can be used for users to access, monitor, record, and print from any location in the network, rather than generating continuous analog video signal form image.

Today's home smart cameras are based on this technology, adding features to integrate into the smart home ecology and provide relevant convenience to users.

The development trend of smart cameras

The above history of smart camera development can be roughly inferred from the future development trend of smart cameras, especially in the development of electronic products such as intelligent, networked, IP-driven smart cameras will also embark on a new stage.

The development trend, such as the integration of the front end, specifically for home cameras in the data and software to achieve the basic design that the production of integrated processes, effectively speeding up the production efficiency of home cameras.

And in the network, the current support for dual-band Wi-Fi cameras have begun to appear, 4G camera products and practical applications have become very common, the wireless camera is becoming popular, and the future will also slowly become standard.

Storage vendors, from traditional SD card storage, to NVR storage, and now the cloud storage, FTP storage, and other directions. Especially limited by the physical characteristics of the memory itself, cloud storage can solve the problem of data loss; storage gradually to the cloud will become an established trend.

Detection, traditionally mainly through motion detection or sound alarm, later added specific functions such as smiley face capture.

Today, AI and deep learning can be applied to the home of dogs and cats, pet detection, curtain closures, and other security scenarios.

And in recent years, affected by COVID-19, muzzle detection, face recognition, long-distance temperature measurement, and other functions developed rapidly; the future of smart home cameras will also be driven by deep learning to learn more application functions.

The resolution, limited by the cost and the processing power of remote cell phone terminals and other limitations, the mainstream consumer camera resolution is about 2 million. However, with the decline in the cost of raw materials for cameras, as well as cell phones and other terminals to improve processing power, cameras began to improve in resolution gradually. 5 million resolution has become the mainstream of the current smart camera, the future camera resolution will be further enhanced.

Of course, as the smart camera in the home security is getting higher and higher, and most can achieve networked remote control, its security needs are raised to the forefront.

At present, from the situation found in the market, the market does not pay enough attention to information security, which has a variety of reasons.

From the chip level, there are already relevant security chips in the market, but this requires manufacturers to accept the internal retrofitting of this product. The security chip will reduce the product processing speed of the relevant data; the external manifestation is the lag and delay;

At the same time, camera companies have limited profit space, resulting in a limited budget for algorithm function innovation and product information security protection, making companies less willing to improve the security protection level of cameras. More importantly, the user's perception of security is not strong, but the perception of product performance is more intuitive.

In the future, smart cameras want to popularize the security of the complement quickly is essential, but also the only way to let users use reassurance.
