High performance ferrite beads in 0603 size for automotive application

One major aspect in selecting chip ferrite beads for power supplies is the high-rated current levels that they offer. As such, Murata has now added to its line-up a series of these beads in the 0603 chip size(1.6mm × 0.8mm). The new beads, which are designed for automotive applications, have the same levels of rated current as the BLM21PG_SH series in the 0805 chip size(2.0mm × 1.25mm).

  

Background

The locations where chip ferrite beads are used can be divided into signal lines and power supply lines. For power supply lines, the rated current level has great significance as an indicator that determines whether or not the beads can be used.  Until the release of the new series, the only ferrite beads in the 0603 chip size(1.6mm × 0.8mm) that were available offered rated current levels lower than those of the BLM21PG_SH series in the 0805 chip size(2.0mm × 1.25mm).

By optimizing the materials and internal construction of the beads, Murata has created products with the same levels of rated current as those of the existing BLM21PG_SH series and added them to its line-up, thereby expanding the range of possible applications.

  

Features

Despite being housed in the smaller 0603 chip size(1.6mm × 0.8mm), the new ferrite beads achieve the same levels of rated current as those of the BLM21PG_SH series in the 0805 chip size(2.0mm × 1.25mm).
