Fujitsu Announces New Self-Checkout Solution for the Convenience Sector

Fujitsu, a leading information and communication technology (ICT) company, today announced the release of the Fujitsu Impulse™, the first automated assistant self-checkout system designed specifically for the needs of C-stores. The Fujitsu Impulse has a slim design, offers a user-friendly interface beneficial for customers and store employees, and is designed to maximize merchandising and advertising space in the retail environment.

The Fujitsu Impulse is 14.84 inches wide and 20.3 inches high, making it the smallest, first-ever convenience self-checkout solution designed to be installed anywhere, such as displayed prominently on a wall or positioned on a countertop, which will maximize conversion rates and keep queues short. The Fujitsu Impulse offers a cashless payment option with an intuitive browser for non-barcoded items, putting more control in the hands of the customer looking to purchase goods, especially non-scannable items. This option cuts down on customer service and promotes a seamless shopping experience. The Fujitsu Impulse also offers wrapping options that provide advertising for brands and a suite of features that turn the screen into a digital signage platform.

“Our goal at Fujitsu was to develop a product that not only met the growing demand of customers, but integrated harmoniously into our clients’ current CRM application – we wanted to put the convenience factor back into convenience stores,” stated Marc Janssens, executive vice president of retail, Fujitsu. “With mobile management options, low maintenance/cost and flexible software solutions, the Fujitsu Impulse is designed for clients to maximize their bottom dollar while surpassing the needs of their customers in every way. On top of all the backend solutions, the advertising opportunity for brands offers great visibility throughout the store and will correlate to an increase in sales.”

The Fujitsu Impulse is managed by Integro, Fujitsu’s lifecycle management tool that provides in-depth analyses and detailed reporting on many facets of the system, which assist in helping define a sales strategy. Integro provides an out-of-the-box reporting solution hosted in the Fujitsu Cloud. These specialized reports provide real-time information about the performance of a retailer’s fleet, providing: SCO lane status and availability, ticket and issue statuses, device and peripheral asset data, and big data on front-lane SCO operations, including attendant performance and successful use of Local Assisted Help. The Integro reports allow users to drilldown by multiple categories, such as division, district, and store. There are options to view reports in the store, remotely, or load them into a pre-existing business intelligence tool.

  • Credit slips
  • Attendant intervention
  • Access control activities
  • Transaction

Demo, pricing and availability 
The Fujitsu Impulse will be on display at the RSPA (Retail Solutions Provider Association) in Orlando, FL between August 2-5, located at booth #729 in the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. The Fujitsu Impulse will be available in the United States and Canada in late October 2015 from Fujitsu direct sales and channel. Prices vary by country and configuration.
