Flash drive features USB 3.0, RAM cache

The USB 3.0 Express RAM cache flash drive (ST3UxxERS) comes with 32- or 64-Gbyte capacity and a 32-Mbyte DRAM cache. The MLC drive can copy many small files — such as backing up many Word docs or MP3 files — 18 times faster than a standard drive. Sequential read and write speeds only show how a drive will perform when copying large files; small files are much slower without a cache.

The drives are fully USB 2.0 backward compatible and feature sequential read/write speeds of 125/42 Mbytes/s, 10 years data retention, and a driver that works with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 (32 and 64 bit). USB 3.0 Express drives without RAM cache are also offered. ($129 and $229 each — available now.)
