AppliedMicro’s X-Gene 2 64-bit ARMv8-Based Server-on-a-Chip Enables New Levels of Performance and Power Efficiency on OCP Compliant V-Raptor Servers

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, today announced that XS Inc., a leading supplier of customized solutions for enterprise and hyperscale data center customers, has selected AppliedMicro’s X-Gene® 2 server CPU for its next-generation V-Raptor servers.

The jointly engineered V-Raptor II series, featuring X-Gene’s 64-bit ARMv8-A microarchitecture, couples the performance and power-efficiency of X-Gene 2, and is designed for compute intensive workloads.

“Our collaboration with XS Inc. showcases our commitment to the Korean market, as well as the market demand for X-Gene-based platform solutions,” said Kumar Sankaran, associate vice president, software and platform engineering at AppliedMicro. “We are excited that XS Inc. has developed a high performance, low power, cost-effective platform that is ideal for the enterprise and hyperscale data center markets.”

XS has designed and will market a new OCP server platform based on the X-Gene 2 Server-on-a-Chip® solution. The 1U quad socket solution delivers leading-edge performance and power-efficiency suitable for cost-effective scale-out high-performance application server deployments.

“We’re delighted to collaborate with AppliedMicro as it shows our joint commitment to delivering X-Gene-based solutions for the data center markets,” said Myoung Hwan Yoo, CTO and co-founder at XS Inc. “We have worked closely with tier one Korean data center customers to develop a platform that is optimized to meet their hyperscale data center needs and look forward to volume deployments starting later this year.”
