The purpose of digital signal processing is to measure or filter continuous analog signals in the real world. Therefore, before performing digital signal processing, the signal needs to be converted from the analog domain to the digital domain, which is usually achieved by an analog-to-digital converter. And the output of digital signal processing often needs to be transformed into the analog domain, which is realized by a digital-to-analog converter.

Algorithms for digital signal processing require the use of a computer or special-purpose processing equipment, such as digital signal processors (DSPs) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Digital signal processing technology and equipment have outstanding advantages such as flexibility, accuracy, strong anti-interference, small device size, low cost, and fast speed. These are unmatched by analog signal processing technology and equipment.

The implementation methods of DSP are generally as follows:

Among the above methods, the disadvantage of the first method is that it is slower and can generally be used for simulation of DSP algorithms; the second and fifth methods have strong specificity and are greatly restricted in application. The second method also It is not convenient for the independent operation of the system; the third method is only suitable for implementing a simple DSP algorithm; only the fourth method makes the application of digital signal processing open a new situation.

Simple implementation of DSP audio processing

Most of the traditional audio equipment's audio processing uses analog equipment. These equipments or parts have large volume, low accuracy, and are easily affected by the environment. Moreover, the components are more likely to be aging and affected. Using a digital audio processor greatly reduces the size and accuracy of the device, and the digital device is less affected by the environment, does not affect performance due to aging, has high flexibility, good reliability, and is easy to develop and upgrade. The essence of digital audio signal processing is to use digital filtering instead of analog filtering to digitally process the collected audio signals.

In terms of audio quality, after digital audio is converted by analog-to-digital / digital-to-analog, the closer it is to analog, the better.
