Altera's Cyclone Family of Devices naming conventions

Update Time: 2020-03-31 16:42:42

Device family + device type (whether high-speed serial transceiver is included) + number of LE logic units + package type + number of high-speed serial transceivers (do not write if not) + number of pins + normal temperature range of the device + Speed grade + suffix

The following figure is the information given in the official manual:

Take the EP4CE10F17C8N chip as an example to introduce in detail:

EP4C: Altera device family CycloneIV;

E / GX: E means a device with abundant common logic resources, GX means a device with a high-speed serial transceiver;

10: the number of LE logic units, 10 means about 10k logic units;

C: indicates the number of high-speed serial transceivers, this chip does not have high-speed serial transceivers so do not write;

F: indicates the PCB package type, F is the FBGA package, E (EQFP), Q (PQFP), U (UBGA), M (MBGA);

17: indicates the number of pins, 17 means 256 pins;

C: working temperature, C means that it can work at 0 ℃ to 85 ℃ (civilian grade), I means that it can work at -40 ℃ to 100 ℃ (industrial grade), A means that it can work at -40 ℃ to 125 ℃ (military grade) );

8: The speed level of the device, 6 is up to 500Mhz, 7 is up to 430Mhz, and 8 is up to 400Mhz. It can be seen that the smaller the number in Altera devices, the faster the speed, while the larger the number in Xilinx It means the faster the speed; Generally speaking, increasing a speed grade will bring 12% to 15% performance improvement, but the cost of the device will increase by 20% and 30%. If the design structure is used to improve performance by 12% to 15% (by adding additional pipelines), then the speed grade can be reduced, thereby saving 20% and 30% of the cost;

N: suffix, N means lead-free, ES engineering samples.
