Power Integrations Introduces Off-Line Switching Power ICs with Output Specifications Dynamically Settable

Power Integrations, a leader in high-voltage integrated circuits dedicated to high-efficiency power conversion, has released the InnoSwitch3-Pro series of off-line flyback switching power supply ICs with constant voltage/constant current and constant power output characteristics. The new device provides 65 W of output power and offers 94% efficient performance over a wide range of input voltage and load conditions. In addition, the output voltage and current can be precisely controlled with a dynamic step through a simple two-wire I2C interface (10 mV in voltage steps and 50 mA in step steps). The new device can work with the microcontroller and can also control and monitor the offline power supply according to the system CPU instructions. Its application covers almost all fast-charge protocols, including USB Power Transfer (PD) 3.0 + PPS, Quick ChargeTM 4/4+, AFC, VOOC, SCP, FCP, and other industrial and consumer battery chargers, dimmable LED ballast driver and output adjustable industrial power supply.

The InnoSwitch3-Pro power conversion IC integrates the microprocessor VCC power supply and eliminates the need to add a peripheral LDO to power an external microprocessor. In addition, an n-channel MOSFET driver circuit is integrated to enable or disable the main power output of the power supply. Because the new device integrates telemetry technology for bus voltage, current, and fault reporting, as well as dynamically settable protection features such as over-temperature protection (OTP) for externally-set power supplies, input over/under voltage (OV/ UV protection, output overvoltage/undervoltage (OV/UV) protection, and short circuit protection mechanisms allow the number of BOM components for complex off-line power supplies to be significantly reduced, and the complexity of power supply design can be greatly simplified.

Shyam Dujari, director of product marketing for Power Integrations, said: "The AC-DC power conversion market is undergoing a rapid transition. System designers need a programmable switch-mode power supply solution that can accommodate a variety of fast-charge protocols, including recent ones. The completed USB PD 3.0 + PPS specification was formulated.” He further stated that “the ability to precisely control the output voltage and current of the power supply in different application environments is also very useful for designers of professional applications that require low-volume production because they can use it. Software can easily configure output specifications during production or during installation to meet the power requirements of different applications."

The new InnoSwitch3-Pro IC uses Power Integrations' high-speed digital communication technology, FluxLinkTM, and it also features synchronous rectification, quasi-resonant switching, and accurate secondary-side feedback detection and control circuitry. The new device has passed CQC, UL, and TUV (EN60950) certification and can be safely bridged between the primary and secondary safety barriers. Its InSOP-24D package also provides a low-profile solution for efficient heat dissipation, with wider creepage distances (>11.5 mm) and clearances on the primary and secondary sides for greater reliability, surge immunity, and ESD capability Stronger.

InnoSwitch3-Pro IC supports fast charging protocols for many applications such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, smart speakers, and non-charging applications that require output control by load or adjustable output. Samples of devices are now available for ordering and are priced at $1.12 per unit based on 10,000-piece order quantities.
