ON Semiconductor released the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) system single-chip (SoC) RSL10.

Published time: 2018-05-05

The rapid development of the Internet of Things speed up the process of wireless interconnected devices includde mobile medical devices such as hearing aids, implants, industrial applications such as smart buildings, security monitoring, automotive markets such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), sensors, V2X, and wireless applications such as smart phones. , wireless charging, wearable electronic products, and so on, have generated a huge demand for wireless Internet. Manufacturers want to be in a dominant position in the market for competitive incentives, and it's necessary to make their wireless interconnect products with low power consumption as their key feature.

ON Semiconductor has experience and expertise in the medical and wireless markets for many years , applying the advantages of ultra-low power, miniature packaging and other technologies and packaging to wearables, consumer electronics and the Internet of Things, and launching Bluetooth Low Power Consumption (BLE) System Single-Chip (SoC) RSL10 sets a new benchmark for wireless interconnect applications.

2.ABOUT the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) system single-chip (SoC) RSL10.

Recently ON Semiconductor released the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) system single-chip (SoC) RSL10.

The RSL10 utilizes ultra-low power technology developed by ON Semiconductor for hearing aids to provide the industry's lowest dynamic and deep sleeping mode power consumption, high flexibility, support voltage range from 1.1 V to 3.3 V, firmware update online, support for 2.4 GHz Bluetooth Protocols, advanced packaging technology to achieve the smallest form factor, and provide WLCSP, QFN and other packaging options, can be designed into the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) or custom module to enhance the advantages of miniaturization and integration.

RSL10 is a Bluetooth 5 certified, multi-protocol radio System on Chip (SoC) which brings ultra-low-power wireless technology to wireless applications.Offering the industry’s lowest power consumption, RSL10 helps provide devices like heart rate monitors with advanced wireless features while optimizing system size and battery life.

Unlike most other multi-protocol radio SoCs, RSL10 is specifically designed for applications using 1.2 and 1.5 V batteries, and supports a voltage supply range between 1.1 and 3.3 V without a required DC/DC converter. The highly-integrated radio SoC features a dual-core architecture and a 2.4 GHz transceiver, providing the flexibility to support Bluetooth low energy technology and 2.4 GHz proprietary or custom protocols.

3.Bluetooth Low Energy Technology Programming Model

Applications include BLE and non-BLE codes. For BLE code, the application will provide data to the configuration file or receive data from the configuration file. Functional profiles such as batteries, heart rate, and health thermometers ensure interoperability between devices. It is recommended to use all Bluetooth SIG profiles to ensure interoperability with other BLE devices. Services such as GAP, GATT, SMP, ATT, L2CAP, and link layer have certain characteristics. Essentially, a profile will report data to a set of service functions that will then format the data, schedule it for transmission to the physical layer, or receive it from the physical layer.

Taking a heart rate monitor as an example, Figure 3 illustrates how the heart rate measurement is transmitted to the mobile phone App via the BLE and displayed. A heart rate monitoring profile is essentially an application that interfaces to the data you provide or receive. One key value is the "heart rate measurement." This is a heart rate value that contains measured heart beats per minute (BPM).
