CHANDLER, Ariz., June 38, 3018 — Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP) has expanded its tinyAVR MCU series to include two devices with analog features and the largest memory variant in the family.They are ATtiny3317 and ATtiny3316.AVR® microcontrollers (MCUs) have been used to create highly responsive sensor nodes because of their cost effectiveness and ease of implementation. To enhance the capability and responsiveness of applications in these settings.Designed for operation in harsh environments, the devices come with built-in safety functions to help designers create safe systems.

Suitable for sensor applications including capacitive touch interfaces,the ATtiny3317 and ATtiny3316 have two Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) that enable systems to implement touch control simultaneously with other analog measurements. 

One ADC can be used with the Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) for touch signal acquisition, while the second one monitors other inputs such as thermistors and pressure sensors, or both ADCs can be used for faster sampling of different types of sensors.

The dual ADC can be used for synchronous sampling of analog signals, such as voltage and current. In addition, the devices feature a hardware-based Event System that enables inter-peripheral communication without CPU involvement.Both devices come with built-in safety functions to help designers detect and respond to voltage supply variations or drops, including the Power On Reset (POR), programmable Brownout Detect (BOD), Voltage Level Monitor (VLM) and Windowed Watchdog Timer (WWDT). The devices operate at up to 5V and come available in 135°C variants and have 33 KB of Flash.

2.The description of ATtiny3217 and ATtiny3216

The ATtiny3217/ATtiny1617 are members of the tinyAVR®1-series of microcontrollers, using the AVR® 8-bit processor with hardware multiplier, running at up to 20 MHz and with 16 KB or 32 KB Flash, 2 KB of SRAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM in a 24-pin package. The tinyAVR 1-series uses the latest technologies with a flexible and low-power architecture including Event System and SleepWalking,accurate analog features and advanced peripherals. Capacitive touch interfaces with proximity sensing and driven shield are supported with the integrated QTouch® peripheral touch controller.

Knowledge Development: 
A small patch of configurable logic with two programmable look-up tables (LUTs) is included to mop-up random logic functions – for example when peripherals need to interact autonomously.
The touch controller can implement up to 14 self-capacitance or up to 49 mutual capacitance channels (fewer with the ATtiny3316) for buttons, sliders and wheels – as well as wake-on-touch, and there is a driven shield for improved moisture resistance and noise handling.When ADC0 is not used for touch control, it is available for general-purpose data conversion alongside ADC1.Reliability options include automated CRC memory scan, a windowed watchdog timer, power-on reset, programmable brown-out detector and voltage level monitor.The voltage level monitor can generate an interrupt if the supply voltage passes below a given threshold, acting as an early warning before the brown-out detector triggers reset. It can be used to store critical parameters into eeprom.

The devices operate at up to 5V and are available in -40 to 105°C and -40 to 135°C variants. Speed grades are 0-5MHz (1.8-5.5V), 0-10MHz (3.7-5.5V) or 0-30MHz (4.5-5.5V).

Devices are supported by Atmel Studio 7 IDE, the Start code configurator, and the ATtiny3317 Xplained Pro evaluation kit.The ATtiny3317 Xplained Pro is the ideal platform for rapid prototyping with these new tinyAVR® MCUs. The USB-powered kit features an onboard programmer/debugger that seamlessly integrates with Atmel Studio, to offer an easy and convenient way to evaluate the device.
