The overview of LTM4678

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) recently announced the Power by Linear(TM) LTM4678.The LTM4678 is a dual 25A or single 50A step-down μModule® (power module) DC/DC regulator featuring remote configurability and telemetry-monitoring of power management parameters over PMBus—an open standard I2C-based digital interface protocol. The LTM4678 is comprised of digitally programmable analog control loops, precision mixed-signal circuitry, EEPROM, power MOSFETs, inductors and supporting components.

The LTM4678’s 2-wire serial interface allows outputs to be margined, tuned and ramped up and down at programmable slew rates with sequencing delay times. True input current sense, output currents and voltages, output power, temperatures, uptime and peak values are readable. Custom configuration of the EEPROM contents is not required. At start-up, output voltages, switching frequency, and channel phase angle assignments can be set by pin-strapping resistors. The LTpowerPlay® GUI and DC1613 USB-to-PMBus converter and demo kits are available.

The LTM4678 is offered in a 16mm × 16mm × 5.74mm CoP-BGA package available with SnPb or RoHS compliant terminal finish.

Analog Devices, Inc's  LTM4678

The LTM4678 integrates the DC/DC controller, EEPROM, power FET, inductor, and support components in a 16mm x 16mm x 5.86mm BGA package. Ensure an output voltage accuracy of ±0.5% over the entire voltage, load, and temperature range (–40°C to 125°C).

The LTM4678 operates from an input range of 4.5V to 16V with two output voltages digitally controlled from 0.5V to 3.3V. The LTM4678 achieves 90% peak efficiency over 12VIN, 0.9VOUT, and 50A operating conditions. The device provides 40A in a 12VIN to 0.9VOUT conversion with an ambient temperature of 70°C and a 200LFM airflow. The switching frequency ranges from 350kHz to 1MHz and can be synchronized to an external clock with a frequency range of 350kHz to 1MHz for noise sensitive applications.

The LTM4678's high power density and scalability make it ideal for PCB area constraints in component-mounted system boards, powering advanced digital devices with low voltage and high current.
