2-Gbit DDR2 Mobile RAM is smallest

Update Time: 2019-12-19 00:00:06

The ECB240ABBCN 2-Gbit DDR2 Mobile RAM is said to be the industry’s smallest LPDDR2 chip. The 40 nm process IC comes as a bare chip, PoP-type FBGA, and 10 x 11.5-mm FBGA134 and operates at –30 to 85°C.

The by-16-bit or by- 32-bit IC runs at up to 1,066 Mbits/s on 1.2 V with a data transfer rate of 8.5 Gbytes/s for a 64-bit system configuration. It uses roughly 30% less operating current compared with existing 50-nm products. (Price not given samples available now.)

ELPIDA is the only company in Japan that produces dynamic random access memory (DRAM) such as computers, and has the third largest market share in the DRAM market. Elpida was established in 1999 and listed on the main board of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2004. With the financial crisis in the fall of 2008, the company's performance deteriorated rapidly. On February 27, 2012, the company filed for bankruptcy protection. MICRON completed the acquisition and merger of ELPIDA in 2013.
