12-port GbE PHY features lowest power

The VSC8512 is said to be the industry’s first 12-port Gigabit Ethernet PHY device with support for both copper and fiber media. The power-wise IC features ActiPHY automatic link-power down and PerfectReach intelligent cable drive power adjustment.

The IC achieves breakthrough power dissipation of 370 mW/port for 1000Base-T copper and 150 mW for fiber and supports both low-pin-count SGMII and QSGMII interfaces. Other power-saving features include temperature monitoring, smart fan control, and adjustable LED brightness. The PHY comes in a small 27 x 27-mm package.
