Since the string inverter converts the high voltage DC output in the solar panel into a high voltage output that is transmitted to the grid. This high voltage must be isolated from the low voltage circuitry that is accessible to the user. Optically isolated IGBT drivers also allow designers to isolate low-noise control circuits from noisy high-voltage and high-current circuits, improving performance, reducing product size and simplifying the design process.

Since solar power will eventually be integrated into the grid, in order to protect the low voltage devices from high voltage power, a typical optocoupler may not be sufficient. For some high isolation optocouplers, AC isolation exceeds 8000V.

Commonly used high isolation voltage optocouplers are: CNY64, CNY65 and so on.
 It typically includes a relay contact output for starting an external device, such as a fan for preventing audible alarms and auxiliary cooling of the power output. Although mechanical relays can be used in these applications, the reliability of optically isolated solid state relays is higher. In addition to the SSR option, customers can choose to use a MOSFET driver to build a custom relay with discrete standard MOSFETs.

At the same time, common transistor output optocouplers are widely used in various control, isolation, feedback, sampling and other circuits.
